Much more than football for the Costa Blanca Cup

The international grassroots football tournament was presented at the Torrejó Building in Benidorm, announcing the participation of teams from 23 countries on five continents, to be held from July 2 to 8th

The Costa Blanca Cup 2023 began its 29th edition with the presentation of the tournament at the Torrejó Building in Benidorm. The international grassroots football tournament, with categories of football 8, football 11 and futsal for both women and men, as well as the activation of Inclusive, will be held between July 2 and 8 in a total of ten venues (Benidorm, Benissa, Calpe, Altea, Alfàs del Pi, La Nucía, Polop, Finestrat and Villajoyosa and Callosa). During the event, Fernando Brotons, director of the tournament, gave a tour of the history of this international competition, which has reached its 29 editions, in which, for the second consecutive year, there will be representation from the five continents. In addition, he underlined the four fundamental pillars: internationality, tourism, sports and the experiential.

This edition, which will be held from July 2 to July 8, will feature the participation of teams from 23 countries around the world. The worldwide representation of grassroots football teams in this benchmark tournament, which rises to a figure of 275, will mean the presence of squads from five continents: Europe, Asia, America, Africa and Oceania. "Since its inception, the Costa Blanca Cup has opted for the internationalization of the tournament, not only because of the experience it entails to come to compete in Benidorm and the different venues we have, but also because of the values that the tournament brings, as well as the tourism that is generated,” said Brotons.

Spain will be the country with the greatest representation, competing with teams from Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, France, England, Northern Ireland, Iceland, Japan, Jordan, Morocco, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Uganda and Spain itself.

The total number of participating teams is a figure of 275, distributed in an event that has a soccer tournament, another whip and another inclusive, hosting both male and female categories, in different formative ages. “We are not only committed to internationalization, but also to inclusion. Since 2015 we have incorporated inclusiveness into the Costa Blanca Cup, including different capacities, managing to demonstrate that soccer is a sport for everyone”, pointed out the tournament director.

Among the figures that were provided in the presentation, the 674 matches that will be played in the ten venues stand out. In addition, the competition will have 16 male and 7 female categories with 53 teams. “From the beginning we bet on women's football, but it was difficult to find teams, we focused on bringing formations from those countries where women's football was more developed. Now we have 53 teams from 7 different countries”, reviewed Fernando Brotons.
